Tahereh Taherian, the newly appointed Vice-President of Iran’s National Olympic Committee, has come out in favor of women attending sporting events.
“This will ease international pressure on Iran,” Mrs. Taherian recently said. “Girls and women were able to watch games in sports stadiums without any problem during the 1980s and ’90s. Also, female basketball and volleyball fans were able to attend matches in recent months.”
“Sports federations should provide a safe and secure atmosphere in stadiums so that female sports fans can watch matches without fear and anxiety,” Mrs. Taherian added. She also praised the performance of Iranian female athletes in the Asian Games Jakarta-Palembang 2018.
Speaking about women in senior managerial positions, Taherian said: “We plan to appoint qualified women to head the 15 newly created commissions within the Olympic Committee. We depend on their expert advice in sports management.”
