Iranian tennis players, Meshkat al-Zahra Safi and Donya Ameri defeated their Kazakh opponents 10-8, 3-6, and 6-3 to win the girls’ doubles championship in the 2018 Qatar Asian Junior 14&U tournament held in Doha from March 31 to April 6.
Safi also won the girls’ junior singles championship by beating her Kazakh opponent in the final 6-0 and 6-1. Another Iranian competitor, Fatemeh Sadat Zanjani, achieved fourth place in the girls’ junior singles. Zanjani and her Vietnamese partner secured third place in girls’ junior doubles.
Young tennis players from Iran, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Syria, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, Hong Kong, Great Britain, Nepal, Romania and the U.S. competed in the Qatar Junior tournament.
Iranian tennis players have excelled in the Asian junior competitions in recent years. Following their impressive performances in the Vietnam Junior Open last year, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) has allowed Safi and Younis Talavar to compete in the Asian World Tennis Championships Junior 14&U to be held between May 6 and 19 In Bangkok, Thailand.
